2016 Model International Criminal Court Mock Trials in Poland

Opportunity to participate in the 2016 Model International Criminal Court (MICC) Mock Trials in Poland

DEADLINE TO APPLY IS MIDNIGHT SEPTEMBER 9, 2016

For the fourth year, New Mexico Human Rights Projects (NMHRP) is privileged and honored to recruit 10 New Mexico high school students to participate in the Model International Criminal Court (MICC) mock trials in Poland (www.model-icc.org) from November 21 – 26, 2016.

    What is the project about?
Ten New Mexico high school students will join high school students from Germany, Poland and Israel to take part in the reenactment of three historical cases: Nuremberg Tribunals, Yugoslavia Tribunal and the Rwanda Tribunal. The project will take place from November 21 – 26, 2016 in the beautiful international conference center in Krzyzowa, Poland (www.krzyzowa.org.pl/index.php/en). The students will be trained to take on roles of judges, prosecutors, defenders, and observing journalists.

Students must be at least 16 years old and have a valid passport.

What does the MICC funding cover?
MICC will cover nearly 100% of the round-trip travel costs, all meals, accommodations and trainings in Krzyzowa, Poland and two nights in Berlin. Students must cover any additional costs when not at the venue such as, buses, taxis and food while in Berlin.

    How can I participate?
If you are interested in this once-in-a-lifetime educational experience, please answer the question below in approximately 500 words double-spaced.

Attach a separate cover sheet with your name, age, school, phone number, and email address (this information cannot appear on your essay). Judges will review all of the responses followed by an interview on Saturday, October 1, 2016, of the top 15 entries to determine the 10 most suitable students. Email your essay and cover sheet to regturner@aol.com. All essays MUST be received by midnight September 9, 2016.
    NO EXCEPTIONS ALLOWED.

    Question:

Think of 3 people who, in your opinion, should stand trial in an international court of justice and explain why? What do you think their appropriate punishment should be for each and why?

orange-topquote The most impressive aspect of the exhibit is that it is student led. Students who teach students will, ultimately, have the largest impact on the problem. Sidebar - Orange Bottom Quote (Albuquerque Professor)
