    ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

We are confronted daily with news of ethnic conflicts, inhumane practices, civil unrest and war that threaten our human rights. Unfortunately, a majority of the world’s population does not know what human rights are and that they are entitled to them.

Workshop participants will be trained to use the Youth for Human Rights Educator’s Guide containing lesson plans, activities, and ideas for engaging students in human rights education.

    TRAINERS

Dr. Mary Shuttleworth, Founder and President of Youth for Human Rights International was raised in apartheid South Africa, where she saw the devastating effects of discrimination and lack of basic human rights. Dr. Shuttleworth created YHRI to teach youth about human rights, specifically the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Patty Allread, Director of Humanitarian Programs for the Church of Scientology of New Mexico is the local representative for Youth for Human Rights International. She assists New Mexico educators and interested organizations in implementing successful human rights education programs.
